The Ergo-Mat reminds me of positive steering. The mouse goes easily where I want it to and stays there till I move it. It doesn't go skating off on its own like it does on the smooth pads. This gives me better control of the mouse without having to grip it. Gripping the mouse hurts, especially when I'm doing graphics or spreadsheets and other tasks that require mouse accuracy.
Because of the slant of the Ergo-Mat, I can rest on the side of my hand instead of on my wrist so my wrist isn't bent backwards and I don't compress the median nerve and the blood vessels.

I use the ergo mat almost every day. It helps slope the mouse to a more natural angle for holding and resting my hand. I'll also use it to rest my elbows on some times since it's so soft with the memory foam inner. Love it!
